About Benzon Research
 Christmas Party, 2016

Benzon Research was established in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1993. Gary L. Benzon, the President and Research Director, holds a Ph.D. in Entomology from North Carolina State University, and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Entomology and Applied Ecology from the University of Delaware. Prior to 1993, he held industry and government positions working with mosquitoes, forest pests, indoor/urban pests, and pesticide application technology. He is a member of the Entomological Society of America, Society of Invertebrate Pathology, American Mosquito Control Association, and the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture.

Chad Finkenbinder, the Laboratory Director, is responsible for the day-to-day administration and operation of all aspects of Benzon Research. He has been with Benzon Research since starting as an intern in 2003, and holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from Shippensburg University. Chad has overseen much of the growth and development of Benzon Research's insect production capacity since 2009, tripling both production and personnel over that period of time.

Staff Scientist Dalanah Smith has been with Benzon Research since starting as an intern in 2012, and holds a B.S. in Biology from Shippensburg University. She is responsible for conducting all routine microbial insecticide bioassays, as well as assisting Gary or Chad with any atypical research projects. Dalanah is also tasked with assisting to direct the production and sales of our three mosquito colonies, and running our facility safety program.

Lead Rearing Technician Janet Barrick has been with Benzon Research since 2003. Her experience and hands-on leadership is an integral part of our insect production team. Janet also assists with taking insect orders,  providing customer assistance, and a long list of other insect production related tasks.

Laboratory Assistant Ashley Huffer plays a key role in assisting with various aspects of laboratory administration. Her many duties include taking insect orders and providing customer assistance, while continuing to perform a variety of insect production tasks. She is expecting to graduate with a B.S. in Biology from Shippensburg University in May 2017.

Six dedicated technicians, one intern, and two support personnel work to keep our laboratory insect colonies healthy and productive 365 days per year. The Benzon Research team currently averages nearly 10 years experience in insect rearing for research and sales.
